Chalkboard Wall Planter

Indoor Gardening

Growing indoors allows you to have organic, delicious and healthy herbs year- round, even in the winter season. You can start your garden inside the house during the winter and when the weather warms up, transplants the seedlings outside. If you prefer, you can keep it inside instead to have them nearby during cooking.

When you are ready to start your indoor garden choose culinary herbs from a certified organic seeds provider or specialty shops. Herbs don't require a lot of space, and can strive on sun light through the window.

Recommended herbs:

Basil, Bay, Chives, Chervil, Cilantro, Oregano, Parsley, Rosemary, Thyme,
Tarragon, Sage
Bay and Chives
Oregano
Chervil or French Parsley

If you are ready to try something different, plant tea herbs, edible flowers, or other small
plants such as microgreens, wheatgrass, and sprouts.

Things to consider:

1. Note the position of the sun as it moves by your kitchen every day.
2. Select a spot that receives at least 4 hours of sunlight, near a wall
to retain the heat.
3. Note any shadows created by nearby buildings or trees, and
changes in sunlight between seasons.
4. If the plant grow long stems but few leaves, they are not getting
enough sunlight. If this is the case, consider setting up fluorescent
light bulbs near the plants.
5. Use high quality potting soil that is not compacted.
6. Make sure the soil drains well so you do not overwater the plants.
7. Choose planters with holes in the bottom to allow for better drainage.
8. Place a tray underneath the planters to collect excess water
9. Add compost or organic fertilizer to enrich the soil for better plant health and growth.
10. Herbs and other indoor plants do not require much water.
Feel underneath the soil if the roots are dry to determine how often the plants should be watered.
11. Be careful not to watered them too often. It could be every few days or as long as a week.
